An Australian researcher has made an interesting observation on the effects of a common parasite on both men and women! Besides its dangerous affects on people across the world, the parasite Toxoplasma gondii infect men leading them to have lower IQs, while infect women to make them more outgoing, friendly, more promiscuous - which help them grow more attractive to men compared with the non-infected females!
Sydney University of Technology infectious disease researcher Nicky Boulter said,
Interestingly, the effect of infection is different between men and women.
Infected men have lower IQs, achieve a lower level of education and have shorter attention spans. They are also more likely to break rules and take risks, be more independent, more anti-social, suspicious, jealous and morose, and are deemed less attractive to women.
On the other hand, infected women tend to be more outgoing, friendly, more promiscuous, and are considered more attractive to men compared with non-infected controls.
In short, it can make men behave like alley cats and women behave like sex kittens!
Including about eight million Australians, Toxoplasma gondii has already infected about 40 per cent of the world’s population! Besides, the popular fears of its infecting pregnant women, causing disability or abortion of the unborn child, its new manifestations seem to be interesting for women!
But, sadly for men, besides having the risk of getting killed if one’s immune systems are weakened, they also risk of getting their IQ lowered.
