Scientists are working to transform organic light-emitting diodes — thin sheets of light-emitting plastic — into a source of room lighting. And if that really happens, light bulbs in the future won’t come in boxes, but will be incorporated into the wallpaper!
This idea is tinkered by the Ewing, N.J., company–along with General Electric, Osram Opto Semiconductors and others. The OLED lighting is ‘organic’ because the light-emitting films contain hydrogen and carbon atoms, which can easily be incorporated into fabrics, furniture and other items.
