IBM, software vendor has partnered with healthcare technology vendor, VISICU to wire a telemedicine network to provide remote critical care support to military hospitals along with the Pacific Rim. The system includes IBM BladeCenter servers and a VISICU product, which enables remote monitoring of intensive care units.
Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu will manage the remote monitoring and support system using VISICU’s eICU technology on IBM BladeCenter servers in collaboration with the University of Hawaii. The eICU center in collaboration with remote military hospitals will provide an enhanced care to active duty military and their families.
VISICU’s eICU solution electronically connects military hospital throughout the Pacific Rim with the remote eICU centre in Hawaii. So that patients can instantaneous access to critical care specialists, who are able to monitor patient status and directly speak with patients. Now the eICU specialists can support for more than 300 patients across the Pacific Rim using the state-of-the art network and video technologies with device connectivity and smart alerts.
Tripler Army Medical Center is part of the Pacific Regional Medical Command (PRMC), and it is the first military hospital to use the VISICU eICU solution for remote monitoring and care of patients. Tripler is supporting Joint Medical Operations with the U.S. Naval Hospital in Guam four thousand miles away. IBM servers and system-storage technology will allow the telemedicine network to support more than 300 patients over 4,000 miles.
