With Pluto losing its planet-status, scientists have discovered an entirely new kind of planet — dubbed HAT-P-1. But, it does not resemble any known world in our solar system or beyond - as it is an extra-large giant of gas.

With a radius of nearly 1.4 times larger than the Jupiter’s, it is the largest planet ever discovered.

This discovery has definitely questioned the astronomers’ understanding of how giant planets are formed and evolve! The planet is located in the constellation Lacerta — some 450 light-years from Earth.

Gaspar Bakos, a Hubble fellow at CfA informed that the planet is found to be about one quarter the density of water.
