Some diseases like depression, Crohn’s disease, coronary heart disease, hypertension, rheumatoid arthritis and type 1 and 2 diabetes are among the world’s most commonly reported diseases. But, how many of these have preventive measures?

Once inherited, curative tips are profound, but the treatments are unavoidably prolonged. So, what seems to be important is to zero-in to the source of it – perhaps the genes — to find their preventive measures.

If it is that, scientists have rightly spotted new genetic variants responsible for such diseases as mentioned, escalating a new height in the field of medical sciences. This breakthrough is building hopes for paving the way for research into new treatments and genetic tests.

Identification of genes underlying these conditions would enable scientists in understanding better –

* how disease occurs,
* which people are most at risk and,
* to produce more effective and personalized treatments

To add to this achievement, many of the genes identified by the team were in genome parts not previously thought to be associated with disease.

This dual achievement by the researchers will surely pave way to finding the “preventive” and not just the “curative” measures for the above-mentioned diseases.
