On Thursday, scientists declared that some dinosaurs were able to swim. In Northern Spain, around 125 million years old fossilized foot marks on a lake bed clearly gives their swimming evidence.

It is a known fact that Dinosaurs had ruled the earth from 230 million years ago to about 65 million years ago. During the same time, their other massive companions were plesiosaurs and ichthyosaurs. According to a journal of Loic Costeur, Geology researcher in Universite de Nantes in France, Dinosaur used to swam approximately 10.5 feet deep.

Costeur also stated that, “The animal used a pelvic paddle motion, much like living aquatic birds.” According to the researchers, dinosaur was trying to swim against the current as the fossilized ripple marks state.

Nature and shape of tracks of marks clearly stated that they were large bipedal theropod dinosaur. According to Scientists, Dinosaur was able to swim in accordance with the demand. Earlier discovered evidences showed the tracks of other dinosaurs, such as sauropods. But, the new tracks provide evidence that they were active swimmers. According to Costeur, these tracks were found in Spanish province of La Rioja.

Researchers also stated that, “The excellent preservation of these tracks provides an invaluable opportunity for biomechanical modeling in order to improve our understanding of dinosaur swimming ability and physiology.”
