Scientists have gained success in creating cells which can aid in building body supply of blood and arteries using human embryonic stem cells. Promising results have been achieved in the lab for treatment of heart diseases, diabetes and wounds.

Robert Lanza of Advanced Cell Technology stated:

We have been hunting these elusive cells for years. We’re calling them ‘ambulance’ cells. They’re very smart. We inject them into veins, and they head to repair sites.

Dubbed as Hemangioblasts they develop in early stages in embryonic development and it is being labeled as a promising study. If lab results turn out to be successful then human testing approval will be requested for in 2008. It is expected that these cells could help in emergency medical situations by creation of universal donor blood cells.
