French-Swiss border

Want to witness what the scientists think had happened at the beginning of the universe? Just hold on your breath until the machine capable of recreating the whole phenomenon is finished, and it will happen very soon!

Scientists from the CERN Laboratory in Geneva are preparing for their own version of the Big Bang — one hundred meters under the French-Swiss border. The machine is named the ‘Large Hedron Collider‘ and the researchers will be using it to smash atomic particles at high speed.

Dr Brian Cox from Manchester University said,

What we want to do is create conditions that were present in the universe a billionth of a second after the Big Bang.
